Postal officer for one day

The visit to the exploratorium was wonderful. I thought the kids (after many times they played in this place) had felt a little bit bored, but no! All of them enjoyed this hour like the first time, and after this hour being a postal officer I realized why.

When all the kids arrived to the exploratorium, the designated teacher showed a video or a lesson about one important topic for the kids. In this time, the topic was calcium and the importance of it for our body. All the kids (mostly boys) enjoyed the video because it was about one famous NBA player talking about how many glasses of milk he drank daily.

After the video, every kid received a rol to play in the exploratorium. Some of them were doctors, other were in the supermarket, and others (me included) were in the postal office. Our job was to deliver the mail to the different letter boxes in the school, so after getting our postal-officer's-special-hat, we walked arround the entire school delivering the letters.

In brief I think was a great way to know more about these kids, and watch how they play their roles with responsability and learn at the same time. I didn't had any job related to calcium, but I felt like a postal officer for one day.

The visit to INSIGHTS

The visit to this school was a nice experience.

First of all, always is great leave the campus, and more if this implies to know a new place. I felt good to chat with this kids, because every oportunity is unique to learn something. And I think the kids were very pleased to meet us. When you are a child, everytime that an strange comes to you class is great, at least, that was I felt as a child.

I was surprized by the LEGO's section, with some obstacles and other things to do with the robots made by the kids. I wish I had that! It's fabulous for the childrens to have this kind of stuff, because they can improve their skills and habilities, but playing. I wonder if I can ask to my parents one of this toys :P
Another remarkable thing, was the speed to learn the words in a different language. They really made an effort to pronunce some spanish word in the right way (like the words with "rr", for example vieRnes). Before go to the school, I thinked that the kids maybe might be dispersed, but this didn't happen... they were very interested in our visit.

Finally, the only thought after each trip to a school, is that the time isn't enough. This happen because when more you enjoy the time spent, it goes faster.

School Highlights

When I was on the school, I remember that my highlight of my school day was the recess (like all the kids) but also was the physical education class too!. The bad thing is this class was imparted only twice a week so I had to conform with this few times every week.

Regarding to the day schedule, we usually didn't ate at school. The day starts at 1 pm and ends at 6 pm for elementary school students, so we usually had lunch in our homes and had the morning and evening to play and do homework sometimes(I don't remember to do homework regulary).

In the school we played some games; many of them only for boys (mostly sports games), others only for girls (I can't remember the names of this kind) and other games to play all the kids together. This last ones were the most funny because always is great to play a funny game between 20 or 30 kids.

I remember this "old times" as happy moments of my life, and I think always is great to travel to the past and relive such moments when we hadn't to work, or to get up earlier or even cook food by myself... only a soccer ball was needed to keep me busy all day long, and I was happy doing that.

Book Fair

The experience of go to the book fair in the elementary school was great! First of all, I was surprised about the amount of diferent kinds of books, all of them classifieds according the "public".With an offer of many differents topics, sizes, colours and prices, I think that the kids could choose the right book for them, regardless of anything but the desire to read.

Book fairs like this one, are a good initiative to be imitated in our countries. In my country, for example, isn't common that children could access to this kind of fairs. There are some book fairs organizated by the government or an editorial, but nothing like this one, in the school, where childrens can choose their books by their own and feel the experience to buy exactly what they want.

Finally, and as anecdotal, I think that the gesture of the editorial to donate the same amount of the money raised in the book fair, demonstrates the commitment with the school and the childrens who attend it.

School diferences...

I'm so impressed about the schools here in the U.S.

Every time I talk with American friends, I say that here is like a movie, and the school wasn't the exception. From the yellow school bus to the classrooms, every detail is like I saw many times in movies and, at the same time, to much diferent to the schools in my country.

Like the University here, the school was so clean and ordered, the kids didn't scream all the time, and they make a perfectly straight line to enter each class.
In addition, other big diference is that here the classrooms has everything that the kids need to learn well. Every class is comfortable, looks pretty, and has all the elements needed. I was impressed to, about the computer lab, the gym and the music room because were very complete.

The similarities that I found, were the ways of have fun in the free time, and the happines in the learn time. And, like in every school in the world, when some strange people come to visit, the kids open his eyes so big and talk each other about this strange people.

Summarizing, it was a great experience to see how are the schools here, and the feeling after that, is I would be glad to go again and learn more about this kids and the school.
